Цель урока : активизация тематической лексики УМК в устной речи учащихся в диалогической и монологической форме в процессе развития иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции учащихся.

Данный урок-конференция составлен для учащихся 7-8 классов по теме «Английские и Американские писатели».

Урок с использованием интернет ресурсов и видеоматериалов способствует развитию коммуникативной компетенции учащихся в процессе обучения английскому языку, что в свою очередь повышает эффективность обучающей деятельности учителя, так как видеоматериалы представляют собой образцы аутентичного языкового общения, создают атмосферу реальной коммуникации и делают процесс усвоения иноязычного материала более живым и интересным, убедительным и эмоциональным. Видеоматериалы выступают в роли содержательной и смысловой опоры, а также стимула к речи.

“The Famous English and American Writers”

по УМК авторов О. В. Афанасьевой и И. Н. Верещагиной для учащихся школ с углублённым изучением английского языка (5-й год обучения).

Использование дополнительного материала: Портреты английских и американских писателей, выставка книг на английском языке, карточки речевых опор, карточки с заданиями, мультимедийное оборудование.

Цель урока :

- активизация тематической лексики УМК в устной речи учащихся в диалогической и монологической форме в процессе развития иноязычной коммуникативной компетенции учащихся;

- развитие умений и навыков учащихся аргументировано выражать личное отношение к книге как к источнику знаний и средству организации «диалога культур»;

- воспитание интереса учащихся к шедеврам мировой литературы и формирование потребности расширять свои знания и кругозор через книги.

Задачи:

I. Общеобразовательные:

• Тренировать правильное отношение учащихся к изучаемому материалу;

• Закреплять лексические единицы по теме;

• Развивать навыки монологического высказывания;

• Развивать навыки диалогической речи;

• Закреплять грамматические структуры.

II. Развивающие:

• Формировать способность вступать в иноязычное общение;

• Познакомить учащихся с культурным наследием Великобритании и США;

• Развивать различные виды памяти;

• Развивать мыслительную деятельность;

• Развивать умение делать выводы из увиденного, услышанного или прочитанного на уроке, умение перенести знания в определённую ситуацию;

• Развивать языковую догадку.

III. Воспитательные:

• Воспитывать культуру общения;

• Воспитывать у учащихся толерантного отношения к культуре других стран;

• Прививать правила этикета во время разговора;

• Расширять кругозор учащихся и повышать интерес учащихся к английской и американской литературе.

Новый:

• Ознакомление со страноведческой информацией по теме «Английские и Американские писатели».

Материал для проверки слов и выражений:

• Тренировка в употреблении времени Past Indefinite;

• Фонетическая отработка трудных слов.

Использование доски:

• На доске записаны дата, тема урока, вспомогательные глаголы прошедшего неопределённого времени, вопросительные местоимения для постановки вопросов, домашнее задание на следующий урок.

Использование ИКТ:

• Мультимедийное оборудование.

Ход урока

1. Учитель приветствует учащихся, интересуется отсутствующими и причиной их отсутствия; спрашивает какое было домашнее задание.

2. Учитель сообщает тему и план урока.

Today we shall remember the Past Indefinite Tense and read the new information about the famous English and American writers.

3. Проверка домашнего задания. Well, boys and girls, I want two pupils to go to the blackboard and do the tasks on it.

4. Тренировка в употреблении времени Past Indefinite Tense.

Teacher : Well, boys and girls, look at the blackboard, please. You will read the questions from the blackboard and say if you agree or disagree with our pupils. What other questions to the sentences can you ask?

Учащиеся читают вопросы с доски, выражают своё согласие или несогласие, при необходимости исправляют ошибки. Учитель предлагает учащимся задать и другие, возможные вопросы к предложению.

Teacher : Well, boys and girls, while speaking about your “Hobbies” many of you said at our previous lessons that reading was one of them. This made me be pleased with you and I’d like to know why you were so interested in reading and what books you prefer. Tell me a few words about it, will you?

Pupil 1: In my opinion reading is never a waste of time because all kinds of books people read help everybody not only in education but in many spheres of life too.

Teacher : You are right. And you all, boys and girls, may take part in the conversation using the words and expressions from the key words cards I am going to offer you. Have a look at them and continue discussing the subject of our today’s lesson, will you?

5. Развитие навыков устной речи по теме “Hobbies”.

Pupil 2: It’s natural that reading is very important because first of all it expands our mind. It can also help you to solve a lot of life problems, to learn more about other countries of the world and other peoples.

Pupil 3: I’d like to add that sometimes reading books is the most perfect way to relax and to spend free time in a useful way. And besides I’m sure people are never bored while reading.

Pupil 4: Everybody knows that books play an important part in people’s lives. So if you are keen on reading you may either buy your favourite books at a bookshop or borrow them from your friends or take them out from libraries. People enjoy reading different books.

Teacher : What books are people fond of reading?

Pupil 1: Usually they are fond of reading fiction, but they also read science-fiction. Others prefer reading novels or poetry.

Pupil 5: I should say that books are our real friends and they can help us to discover a lot of new things and explore new ideas. Besides, While reading people may both entertain themselves and feel comfortable.

Teacher : People read books only, don’t they?

Pupil 6: Certainly not. There are a lot of other sources of information, newspapers, magazines, radio and television among them.

Teacher : I see. But why do many people prefer reading?

Pupil 7: Of course a lot of people prefer reading as on the one hand they want to be in the know of everything. But on the other hand only books can captivate you with their thrilling plot and you be impressed by it for a long time.

6. Ознакомление со страноведческой информацией по теме «Английские и Американские писатели» .

Teacher : I agree with you. But I’d like to stress that books can also tell you a lot about lives of famous people and politics, about ancient times, latest discoveries and culture. You are learning English and I believe you are all interested to know more about English-speaking countries and their famous people, some of the well-known writers among them. I’m sure you have read the information about the English and American writers presented in your student’s book, haven’t you? So now I want to invite you to our virtual literary tour and the key words of Card 2 will help you to do it.

Pupil 2: Yes, no doubt. British literature is very rich.

Pupil 1: Which world-known writers is British literature associated with?

Pupil 2: Well, as I know British literature is associated with the names of such great writers as William Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, James Hadly Chase, etc.

Pupil 1: Do you know what books (novels and plays) some of the British authors wrote?

Pupil 2: They were “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, “Death on the Nile” by Agatha Christie, “Lay Her Among the Lilies” by James Hadly Chase and a lot of others.

Pupil 1: Whose birthplace is the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon known as?

Pupil 2: It’s known as William Shakespeare’s birthplace.

Pupil 1: What is the best place of London to begin a literary exploration with? Why?

Pupil 2: It’s Westminster Abby. There is one of the most remarkable places here where one can find the so called Poets’ Corner with monuments and tombs of outstanding writers of Britain.

Pupil 1: Which of well-known American writers do you know?

Pupil 2: I should like to mention some well-known names as Mark Twain and Jack London.

Pupil 1: Can you name any books of these authors?

Pupil 2: Of course, I can. “White Fang” was written by Jack London and “The Prince and the Pauper” was written by Mark Twain.

Teacher : Thank you. And let’s continue our virtual literary tour, which appears now to be a kind of a literary conference in English in order to learn more about British and American writers and poets. I’m going to offer you some more cards containing additional information about them.

Pupil : I’ll try to. Jack London was born in 1876 in the family of a farmer. He lived in a poverty and began to work at the age of 10. He had a lot of jobs and worked as a newspaper seller, a sailor, a factory worker. He was a man of adventure and dreamed of becoming of a pirate. Jack London wrote novels and stories about animals. He lived in Alaska for some years and wrote 152 stories about the North. Jack London died at the age of 40 in 1916.

Teacher : My Dear Students, I suppose we should devote our today’s lesson to William Shakespeare one of the greatest British writers. Look through the key words of the card and say a few words about him. Do, please.

Pupil : William Shakespeare was one of the world’s greatest poets and playwrights. He was also an actor. He was born in 1564 and died in 1616. Among his plays there were both comedies and tragedies. And Shakespeare’s playwriting was recognized all over the world as his brilliant plays contained a lot of good morals and ethical lessons. And this makes me think that Shakespeare’s plays helped the reader to be better, wiser and happier. Many of Shakespeare’s works were published in our country too. They are for example “Romeo and Juliet”, “Hamlet”, “Othello”, “King Lear” and others.

Teacher : Dear friends, say if you have ever heard the name of the writer in the picture.

Pupil : It’s Agatha Christie, a well-known English writer of the 20th century. The most famous characters of her books were detectives. And I should say many of her books were made into films and became very popular with a lot of people. The best novels by the author were “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Death on the Nile”. I haven’t read them but I hope to read them one day.

Teacher : There are certainly many brilliant writers in English literature. And thanks to key words cards you may speak about them as long as we only can.

Pupil : James Hadly Chase was born in 1906 in London. He was the son of Colonel Francis Reymond. James Hadly Chase left home at the age of 18. He worked as a bookseller. He began to write in 1939 and became famous in same time. During World War II James Hadly Chase served in the Royal Air Force. He became one of the best known thriller writers of all times. James Hadly Chase wrote 78 books. He died in 1985.

Teacher : Thank you. I see you have prepared for our conference lesson good enough. I hope you know some books by these writers. Perhaps, you have read some of them. Be ready to give the titles and say a few words about one of the books. For the next lesson : ex. 9, p.36 will be your hometask. Ex. 30, p. 44 is to be written. Is everything clear for you?
